Tell your story!
You are invited to take part in the survey “Latvian Families Across Generations”, organised by the University of Latvia as part of the international Generations and Gender Survey (GGS) programme. The purpose of the survey is to better understand relationships, family life, work, and other life-course events in the context of family planning and demography.
In Latvia, you are one of 7,000 people aged 18 to 59 who have been randomly selected from the databases of the State Land Service to participate in this survey. Your responses will make an important contribution to up-to-date research on family and household life, working life, and living conditions, as well as on public attitudes toward various social issues. The results of the survey and the research based on them may also be used for policy development in Latvia and other participating countries.
What does participation involve?
Completing the survey takes about 45 minutes in total. You can pause at any time and continue later by re-entering your invitation code. Participation is voluntary, and you are not required to complete the survey. Some questions may touch upon personal topics, but if you prefer not to answer, you can simply choose the option “Prefer not to answer.” Some questions ask you to recall certain events; if you do not remember the exact month, please indicate January ‘1’.
To study how people’s life courses change over time, the “Latvian Families Across Generations” survey is conducted as a panel study. This means that in about three years you may be invited to take part in a shorter follow-up survey so that we can learn how your living circumstances and views have changed over time.
Who conducts the survey?
The survey is conducted by the University of Latvia in collaboration with the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI), which coordinates the Generations and Gender Survey. This ensures that surveys in different countries are designed in a unified format and are comparable across countries.

Kas veic aptauju?
Aptauju veic Latvijas Universitāte sadarbībā ar Nīderlandes Starpdisciplināro demogrāfijas institūtu (NIDI), kas koordinē "Ģimenes paaudzēs" aptauju. Tas nodrošina, ka aptaujas dažādās valstīs tiek veidotas vienotā formātā un ir savstarpēji salīdzināmas. Respondentiem, kas to vēlas, šī starptautiskā pētījuma anketa pieejama arī krievu valodā šeit.
